Our Story: Garden Shed Restaurant

How It Began

Born from a love of fire, food & the African bush

Nestled at 59 President Street in the charming mountain town of Graskop, the Garden Shed Restaurant grew from a simple vision: to share the honest, soulful flavours of South Africa with every guest who walks through our gates.

The Setting

Perched on the edge of the Mpumalanga escarpment, Graskop is one of South Africa's most beautiful mountain towns. Surrounded by waterfalls, ancient forests and abundant wildlife, it provided the perfect backdrop for a restaurant that celebrates everything wild and wonderful about this country.

Our open-air garden setting was designed to put you right in the heart of it, fire pits crackle at dusk, wild birds sing overhead, and the cool mountain breeze carries the scent of hardwood smoke from our kitchen.

The Food

We built our menu around the extraordinary diversity of South African cuisine: wild game from the bushveld, slow-cooked potjies, wood-fired pizzas, fragrant curries, and indulgent desserts that have become legends among our regulars.

Our wild game: ostrich, crocodile, zebra, kudu, springbok and more, is ethically sourced and prepared with deep respect for the animals and the land. We believe that eating local game is not only delicious but essential to the South African food story.

The People
